Une famille d’enfants australiens rentre de l’école pour les vacances de Noël. Lorsqu’ils rencontrent deux étrangers sur le chemin, ils leur racontent naïvement leur vie, en mentionnant les biens de leurs parents, dont l’acquisition d’une nouvelle jument. Le lendemain matin, à leur réveil, ils découvrent que le cheval et son poulain ont été volés. Se sentant responsables du vol, ils partent récupérer les chevaux en tendant des pièges sur le chemin des bandits…
