Η ευτυχία ενός αρραβωνιασμένου ζευγαριού δοκιμάζεται από τις οικογενειακές συγκρούσεις και προστριβές που δημιουργούνται ανάμεσα στους συμπέθερους και τα αδέλφια τους. Ο Γιώργος, που εργάζεται σ' ένα γραφείο, και η Έλσα αποφασίζουν να αρραβωνιαστούν. Όμως η μητέρα της Έλσας δε μπορεί να δεχτεί ως γαμπρό "το γιο της ψιλικατζούς" όπως τον αποκαλεί και δε χάνει ευκαιρία να δημιουργεί κάθε είδους προβλήματα με τη γκρίνια και τις απαιτήσεις της. Αλλά και η μητέρα του Γιώργου, που διατηρεί στον ίδιο δρόμο μια μπουτίκ, δε χάνει την ευκαιρία να τορπιλίζει κάθε προσπάθεια συμφιλίωσης με την οικογένεια της νύφης της.
