Ο Πάρις είναι παντρεμένος με την Αθηνά και έχει τρία παιδιά, την Κλειώ, την Κατερίνα και τον Τάκη. Αυτό όμως δεν τον εμποδίζει ένα ωραίο πρωινό να το σκάσει, να φύγει για την μακρινή Ανατολή και από τότε να χαθούν τα ίχνη του. Η Αθηνά έχει ένα ταξιδιωτικό γραφείο, στα όρια της πτώχευσης, παρόλο που ο λογιστής της είναι και εραστής της. Η Κλειώ εργάζεται κοντά της, αλλά βρίσκεται σε διαρκή κόντρα μαζί της και ονειρεύεται την στιγμή που θα επιστρέψει ο πατέρας της, για τον οποίο τρέφει παθολογική αδυναμία. Ο Πάρις, κυνηγημένος από κυκλώματα τοκογλυφίας, αποφασίζει να γυρίσει στο σπίτι του, προκειμένου να βρει χρήματα και να ξεπληρώσει τα χρέη του. Στην οικογένειά του λέει ότι είναι ανίατα άρρωστος και ότι ήρθε να πεθάνει κοντά τους.
