Polizist Wayne Downs und seine Familie hatten zuletzt keine ganz leichte Zeit, weshalb sie nun froh sind über Waynes Engagement als neuer Sheriff in der kleinen, aber traditionsreichen Ostküstenstadt Salem. Dort fanden vor langer Zeit mal Amerikas letzte offizielle Hexenprozesse statt, und nun spuken deren Geister ausgerechnet in jenem Haus, das seit jeher von den Stadtoberen immer wieder dem aktuellen Sheriff zur Verfügung gestellt wird. Natürlich sagen sie Wayne nicht, dass sein Vorgänger hier schon mit seiner Familie starb. Soll er es doch selbst herausfinden.
